The Nazar

Though little is known about The Nazar, their peculiar qualities have both entranced and terrified humanity for generations since their first arrival. It is believed that these strangely-adorned constructs are passengers from another dimension - temporary visitors that have taken an interest in our lonely rock. They are seldom seen, but their presence invariably precedes strange weather patterns and psychological disturbances before they disappear without a trace.

Efforts to interact with these oddities have been fruitless, though not without event. On July 16, 1945, the first detonation of a nuclear weapon was conducted as part of the Manhattan Project's codename 'Trinity.' The testing took place in a stretch of the New Mexico desert known as La Jornada del Muerto, or The Route of the Dead Man. Shortly after, The Nazar made their debut appearance. Any and all documents pertaining to this event have been classified and remain undisclosed to the general public; however, eyewitness reports reveal that the US military attempted to approach the entities. Three Sikorsky H-5 helicopters were deployed to investigate and return with intel. The aircrafts and their passengers have yet to return.

It bears mentioning the creatures' unmistakably uncanny resemblance to the human eye. Indeed, their moniker is a reference to the Arabic amulets of the same name (‏نَظَر‎) which are used to ward off the Evil Eye, a supernatural belief dating back over five millenia. The Nazar's curious yet familiar appearance has given credence to the theories which support their parallel-dimensional provenance, but tangible evidence remains to be found. Though most are convinced with more orthodox, scientific explanations as to their origins, there are others who have taken on a religious fanaticism in their wake, believing the arrival of The Nazar to be supernatural. Dedicated believers call themselves the Nazarites.

Below is a selection of artist's renditions of the various Nazar described throughout the world.
